It's Damien's open-mindedness that makes him a likeable hero for me (which is a very rare thing indeed). And half the fun is seeing the limits of his character getting pushed further and further. If he weren't so willing to adapt to new situations, everything could have turned out so differently.

Interesting point on the lack of machismo and the interaction with Ciani - he's certainly open enough about what he wants of her, but he never crowds her in any way.
