Well, there is the Patriarch, even if he doesn't know for most of the story. But yeah, it makes sense that having that kind of power would separate you from others. Still, I think a lot of it is just Gerald and Ciani's personalities...they are very different in certain ways. My feeling is that Ciani is generally a good person, but there's a strong element of neutrality in her character (which is one of the things that makes Damien uncomfortable) whereas Gerald is anything but neutral--he's Prophet and Hunter both.
