Coldfire reread: BSR Book 1

Today we're looking back at the first third of BSR. Where did the time go - didn't we just start the reread?

So far, we've met our main characters and have been introduced to life on Erna. The bad guys have launched their first attack, and the plot has been set in motion - Damien, Ciani and Senzei have embarked on their quest, and Gerald and Hesseth are on their way to meet them.

What do you think - how's the reread going for you so far? There's been a bit of a drop in participants - where have you all disappeared to? ;-)

Tell us - which were the most interesting points or chapters for you? What new things did you discover about the book, the characters, the world? Which discussion was the most fun? What can't you wait to discuss further?

I keep discovering new details I'd either never noticed or completely forgot in the mean time - about the Holy War and the history of sorcery on Erna, more than anything. I'm becoming more aware of the themes - fear, hunger, balance, as we've discussed in some of the threads above. But my favourite chapter, unsurprisingly, is the Narilka one; I still love that vision of the dark fae best of all.

Coldfire Christmas fic exchange - kick-off

Thank you to everybody for the response to the Coldfire Christmas fic exchange proposal! We didn't expect nearly this much interest - it's really quite stunning.

So, in order to give everybody maximum drawing/writing time, we'll move on to the first step:

Requests

What should a request look like?

• Required are the characters you want to see in your gift, plus some kind of prompt/situation/plot.
  
• If there is something you absolutely don't want to see in your gift, like violence, slash, het, explicitness of any kind, make sure to mention this in your request.


• If you only want a drawing, or only want a story, mention this too. But be aware that especially with art-only request, the chances are considerably smaller that they will be picked by someone

So a request should look like this:
"Tarrant & Damien, alternate ending to CoS. I would love to see Ciani involved in some way. No explicit violence or mention of Andrys Tarrant."

How many requests can I make?
You can make up to 5 requests. If you can, make more than one so it is more likely for an author to pick one of yours. If, for some reason, you want to offer gifts but not make any requests, you are of course welcome too.

Where do I make my requests?
Reply to this post. All comments are screened to ensure that (almost) nobody knows who requested what.

Until when can I make requests
You have until next Monday evening (October 13, 8pm GMT - caution, European time!) to make your requests. We'll make a reminder post on Sunday evening.

What happens next?
All requests will be compiled in an anonymous list and everybody gets to take a look and say which requests they would be happy to work with. Once all authors/artists have made their offers, yours truly is going to play matchmaker to make sure that at least all authors/artists have one request picked up by someone else. All authors/artists get their assignment, and free pick of all other requests in case someone feels inspired to create more than one gift.

Note: When you make your requests, also say whether you are going to write/draw. We need to know this so we can make a priority list of requests for the next step. A willingness to write a drabble or two is absolutely enough already - we won't play this with any minimum word requirements, and anything from a haiku to an epic is welcome.
