Now that the summer break is over and people are returning from holidays, trips to foreign continents to hunt down Iezu and treks through unknown wildernesses populated by rakh, it's time to tackle Crown of Shadows and complete our group re-read!

As before, I'd love to get your input on whether the current discussion format works for you and whether you have any suggestions or criticism. Unless you tell us differently, we'll stick to the Monday/Thursday posting schedule and keep the format as it has been so far.

We'll start on September 14 (Monday in two weeks), and unless major disasters happen, we'll finish the week before Christmas.

We're also looking for people to help us with the posts. [livejournal.com profile] trobadora and I will be regular posters, but we're both looking at a few busy months ahead, so help would be very welcome especially for September and October. You don't have to do a weekly post; it's great already if you can do one or two posts a month, or even a single post somewhere. If you'd like to help, just leave a comment please.

Thanks to everyone who's participated so far, and I hope we'll have just as great a time with CoS as we did with the previous two books!

First post of an administratory nature, and hopefully the last for a long time.

[livejournal.com profile] hunters_forest is being watched by the official news announcement LJ of C.S. Friedman's website, [livejournal.com profile] csfriedman. Essentially this means that we're listed in their user info and that all un-friendslocked posts to this community can be read by them. The journal supposedly is only for news announcements, but of course it is possible that the friends page is being read.

So. This shouldn't be a problem for this comm. The discussions certainly are safe - talking about Tarrant's hair colour can hardly be classed as a copyright infringement, I'd say.

To also keep the fanfics on a safe level, I've updated the community info to include disclaimers as C.S. Friedman requested in her official statement on fanfiction. There is also a sample disclaimer for fan art and fan fiction available now. If you post fics or art on the list, please include a disclaimer from now on. If you link to the fic on another page, I leave it up to you whether you put a disclaimer there or not, but any full text on the list should have a disclaimer on top. I've checked the old posts already for this. It's common practice in fandom anyway, so I doubt this comes as a surprise for anyone.

I have asked the creator of [livejournal.com profile] csfriedman to unlist us from the journal. We'll see how that goes, since there isn't much I can do beyond asking. If the idea of Ms. Friedman possibly reading your posts makes you uneasy, the easiest way to circumvent this is to friends-lock anything you post to the community. Community members will still be able to read it, but journals which only watch the comm - such as the official journal - will not.

So far I do not think we need to worry about this. Ms. Friedman has taken a tolerant position concerning fan works until now, and I hope that this will not change. Most likely we're simply being paranoid, but well - better safe than sorry, where fan fiction is concerned.

If you have any other suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them. This is still a small community, and any input would be more than welcome.
