I think it's a bit of both - Damien can't deal with her connection to the Hunter, but she's also no longer the person she was when he knew her.
And wow, I'd love to read them meeting again after COS! She absolutely would try to find out what had happened, when she can no longer Work. (Although her connection with the Hunter would probably have been dead long before, as soon as he left the Canopy. That would cut off everything, wouldn't it? - Which reminds me that I always wondered how he managed to get through it again at the end of the book, in the weakened state he was in ...)
