Oh, good point about the connection between Ciani and the Dark One not being cut! I'd been thinking about that, wondering if it was a plot hole or deliberate. It was never brought up again, so Friedman might just have forgotten it. (I wish she had brought it up again, if only in a "oops, we were wrong with our assumptions" kind of way.)
