Coldfire casting thread?
Mar. 12th, 2006 06:43 pmI've been informed there hasn't been a Coldfire casting thread recently. So in the interest of living up to the standards of all other online fandoms... who do you think could play various Coldfire characters?
Gerald Tarrant - the hardest to cast, hands down. I'm not fond of whatsisname that the author mentioned. Visually, it might be Hugh Panaro the way he looks in the Lestat trailer. Otherwise, Viggo Mortensen might do it justice, though it would be better if he were some 13 years younger.
Damien Vryce - Russel Crowe? He fits visually and he'd do the raging great, would have to see about the humour.
Narilka Lessing - a china-doll beauty, both fragile and strong, so Natalie Portman by default.
The Patriarch - very, very stereotypical... but really, who else but Christopher Lee?
Hesseth - for some reason I'm thinking Tina Turner, or someone like a younger version of Tina. The same bone structure and regal warmth.
Ciani - Emily Watson. Not quite the visual type, but I think she could convey the warmth and strength and fragility and amorality that's required of the character at various points of the story.
Riven Forrest - Christian Bale. Partly because Christian Bale can play everyone, but also because Riven-in-my-mind has that sort of cynical half-smile. Gerard Butler could also be a possible here, providing he can be persuaded to ditch the accent for once.
Gerald Tarrant Mark Two - oh come on. Beautiful, charming, somewhat shorter than Damien, dark hair, golden skin, looks young but with old dark eyes, a swaggering walk-on part at the very end of the story? Johnny Depp or bust.

Date: 2006-03-13 01:54 am (UTC)I love your choice of Russel Crowe for Damien. When I was reading I kept thinking of Kevin Costner (sp?), which is odd because I don't like him at all.
I also agree wholeheartedly about Natalie Portman as Narilka.
I think Christopher Lee may be too creepy for the patriarch. How about his LOTR co-star, Ian McKellen (Gandalf)? He seems more suited to the character's righteously indignant behavior.
Hesseth...Rosario Dawson perhaps?
You know, what about Karril? A friend of mine suggested Robin Williams, and I simply don't KNOW about that.
As Ciani, I choose Rachel Weiss.

Date: 2006-03-13 07:53 am (UTC)Russel Crowe as Damien? *blinks* Hmmm... you're right. The physical buils, hidden anger and that concealed edge of violence would be perfect.
Christopher Lee? You're evil! Yes, he'd fit perfectly for that role. The height, the blue eyes, and that disdain he cultivates as a villain in movies^_^

Date: 2006-03-13 08:08 am (UTC)I know. It's because Zhang is acting as Asian actresses do. That reserved beauty with a core of steel that only come sout through eyes or forceful body movements. She was really good in Geisha though when she was required to be more emotional.

Date: 2006-03-13 07:59 am (UTC)The second Gerald Tarrant? I'm thinking of the boy who played Ra in the Stargate movie. Or the guy who played Bagoas in Alexander.
It's really difficult to cast Gerald though. I'm tempted to look through French actors for some reason. Because that delicate beauty, air of arrogance, and power is something I've seen European actors cultivate. They're better at it than some stereotypical American actor who's too busy being brash, loud, and macho.
