Feb. 24th, 2007 07:29 pmhi everyone,
i only discovered this comm recently, and have also been rereading the Trilogy, so i guess it's not surprising that this fic popped into my head. it's a sequel to another story i wrote about 6 years ago as a continuation of the epilog in Crown of Shadows. the other story is listed in your fanfic list (hee!) and can be found here. most of the Coldfire fanfic i've read have been first times, so it got me thinking about what it would be like for Damien and (nu)Gerald to be together for twenty years. or longer.

Date: 2007-02-24 12:19 pm (UTC)I love this. The easy bickering that would have come after years spent together and UnGerald's sneaky sacrifice too; it makes sense as I doubt he'd let Damien go that easily. I hope this won't be the last fic you write in this fandom^_^
I think most of us are still writing first times because a) they're so much fun and come in many varied situations and b) the fandom's still small and young and we haven't exhausted all the usual possibilities yet. Though I did write one fic after Damien's death but that's a bit different.

Date: 2007-02-25 04:47 am (UTC)i might write another one in 6 years or so :) but who knows? i'm not quite halfway through WTNF, so it's always possible that the fae may shape a particularly compelling plot bunny out of my hidden nightmares <g>
and i certainly don't have anything against first time stories. not at all. but sometimes it's fun to look at how the characters might be in an established relationship. altho mine came perilously close to 'old codger' sex...

Date: 2007-03-03 07:39 pm (UTC)Oh, it's not that I mind or anything. You're right that a lot of Coldfire fic are first times; they haven't been exhausted yet. That said, I do like your take on Damien and Gerald's 'old age' together. Here's hoping it won't take you another 6 years to write another fic^_~

Date: 2007-02-24 08:44 pm (UTC)This one is a great sequel to it. The interaction, the voices, it all fits them so well. I love how Gerald's sacrifice makes sense, given how easily that could have been OOC.
Is there a chance that you'll stay around? *hopeful look*

Date: 2007-02-25 04:53 am (UTC)when i wrote it i hadn't seen any Coldfire fic, and didn't for quite a while. in fact litfic isn't usually my thing, but i didn't mind the ending. i always felt CSF intended for Damien to follow nuGerald, she was just leaving it up to the reader to fill that part in.
I love how Gerald's sacrifice makes sense, given how easily that could have been OOC.
thanks :) yes, it could have been OOC, and some people might still feel that way, but by the end of CoS i felt that he really was prepared to sacrifice himself, if not necessarily for Damien, then certainly for humanity in general.
i'll certainly stay around :) i have a whole heap of fic to read. whether i'll write anything else, i don't know. i generally only write in one fandom at a time and for the last 6 years, that's been The Sentinel.
