It's that time of the year! Yuletide is starting to stir, NaNoWriMo is just around the corner, and a lot of fannish people start looking at their calendars and count the days until Christmas, and the Christmas fic exchanges.
So far, we haven't done one. But we've got our share of artists and writers, and a truly talented bunch it is! So I would like to propose a Coldfire fic exchange for Christmas. But this, of course, is only going to work if we get participants. (And before anyone wonders, we've cleared this with the Yuletide mods - no point in getting Coldfire banned from there!)
The idea is to keep this as simple as possible, and open to as many people as possible, writers or not. Of course writers are encouraged (where would the fics come from, otherwise?) but if you honestly don't feel you can write, then you aren't excluded.
How is it going to work? Like this:
We're not going to impose minimum word counts or any other qualifiers. A little scene, a sketch - the idea is to have more fic and art again, not to make anyone worry about word counts on top of all the other Christmas time challenges out there. If you can offer a drabble or two, that is enough. If you manage a ficlet, that's even better. A fic or a full drawing, and we'll love you forever.
There won't be assignments either - those who offer to write will get to look at the requests from the full list (anonymized, of course) so they can say which ones they would be willing to write. They'll be asked to write one of them to make sure authors are covered. The other requests will be collected too and your friendly neighbourhood mods will do their best to arrange for someone to pick them up and fill them. Since this is a fairly small fandom and we expect participants not to join by the thousands (though we'd love it!), a free selection of requests and prompts should be possible.
The provisorical timeline is to get requests in over the next two weeks or thereabouts, then quickly figure out who wants which request so everybody has maximum writing time.
Please comment if you are interested in this, and tell us whether you might be able to write or draw. Also tell us if you can't, but whether you want to make requests (don't tell us what, though!). This isn't a firm signup, it's just to give us a general idea whether it's going to be two or ten people who'll play. If you change your mind later, that's perfectly fine.

How is it going to work? Like this:
- Everyone offering to write or draw something is guaranteed to get a request fulfilled.
- Everyone who isn't up to writing or drawing can submit requests which may or may not get picked up. We'll try our best to arrange something for everyone so something can be found in every stocking in the end.

Date: 2008-10-03 06:53 pm (UTC)We're trying to keep this as easy as possible for everyone. So many fic exchanges around - the reasoning was that the fewer minimum conditions we place on things, the better for everyone's nerves.
