There's a new Celia Friedman interview here, where she talks mainly about Wings of Wrath but answers also a couple of questions about Coldfire, and mentions a Coldfire short story to be released soon!
There has been a note about a surprise for Coldfire fans on her site for a while now. It did give the date as December... but did not specify a year? ^^;;; In any case, short story is good!
A graphic novel could be very interesting...depending on who they got to do the art. There are some comic artists out there who're very popular who're deal-killers for me. :P
I remember seeing that. It looked interesting. If I were more obsessive, I might try my hand at it myself. But that's a tremendous investment of time that I don't really have.
As for Wings of Wrath... I've had that one lying around for weeks now but I can't muster any enthusiasm to go and read it. I probably wouldn't even have bothered buying it if I hadn't had it on pre-order for the last year (and essentially forgot about it.)
I find it interesting the question she spent the most time answering was the one about sexism in her books. No, honey, you're not obsessed or anything. *grins* At least she's got her thoughts on the matter out in public now, so we don't have to keep wondering. She believes in chemicals and historical accuracy.
I think the next time that sexist discussion comes up, I'll just start copy/pasting Friedman's own explanation and try to keep my suspicions of her little pet topics to myself. It'll be hard, but I think I can manage. ;)
For her new series...I'll tell you if I like it after I finish reading the third book. If I'm going to love this series, it will be because of the last book. (I already called most of the plot points she's spilled on Wings of Wrath on my journal and here after I finished Feast of Souls, so the excitement at being surprised is not so high at this point, lol.)
I wondered why I wasn't as bothered by some of the things coming up in the Coldfire reread discussions as some other people, because it makes sense that she's going from a pure science/worldbuilding/what-if mindset instead of social crusader/moral advocate. I think I was a little more upset at the new series as how it's like...women CAN'T be magisters because the world will end, omg. If the big reveal at the end is that women magisters turn into/spawn iktaki (or however that's spelled) I might get a little pissy. (If ALL magisters do, then all right, I suppose...I do want some equality of blame if it's something wrong in the magic system causing these problems!)
hmm I kinda suspect that it will turn out that magisters were intended only to be female, because of the whole giving life thing, and that they were supposed to protect people with their powers but something happened to stop that... It would seem almost to explain all the hints about legends being subverted... I havent read the book though although I really want to... I wish someone had asked her in the interview about the whole relationship between the master of lema and undying prince though - that has really bothered me :)

Date: 2009-02-13 12:19 am (UTC)but you're right, if that's the resolution, I'd be pissed off. From what I know of Friedman, though, I doubt she'd go with that.
