Date: 2006-01-31 02:12 pm (UTC)Second thought - updates via Livejournal? Very nice.
Third thought - um... authors watching the fandom? Slightly worrisome for the fic writers...

Date: 2006-01-31 06:06 pm (UTC)And I'm convinced she can't possibly be as bad as Anne Rice, and fandom survived even that.

Date: 2006-01-31 06:26 pm (UTC)So, disclaimers all the way, I guess. I'll do a sample disclaimer later on, and we'll also put something up at the comm's info. Plus some sort of official admin post on the issue.

Date: 2006-01-31 07:05 pm (UTC)Not to mention that most authors prefer the "la la la, I can't hear you" option when it comes to fanfic - they pretend they don't know anything about it. So your're asking yourself, why different here? It's like inviting censorship.
A sample disclaimer sounds good - most people do disclaimers anyway, but it can't hurt to remind everyone.
A friend and I have recently been talking about the infamous "slash question" that gets asked of actors at cons, and I really have no objection to it. These people are not stupid; they know, and if they don't want to talk about it they can deflect. But it's a whole different issue when it's not about slash in general, or fanfic in general, but these people, there - in this case, us.

Date: 2006-01-31 07:16 pm (UTC)There really isn't much we can do except play it safe and cross our fingers that Mrs. Friedman won't decide that we're being too disrespectful. Part of every fanficcer's life. ;-)

Date: 2006-02-01 01:19 pm (UTC)And for the record, were I a famous writer I'd keep an eye on my fandom as well. I might do so in secret, but I would be really curious about what my fans are up to.

Date: 2006-01-31 07:12 pm (UTC)From what it looks at the moment, as long as we are careful with the disclaimers and copyright notes, it should be all right. It's just that I started out in the Anne Rice fandoms, so I'm naturally suspicious of authors by now when it comes to fanfiction.
